Affiliate Membership in the HEI

Affiliate membership in the Health Equity Institute for Healthy Pregnancy, Children and Families (HEI) fosters collaboration among researchers, clinicians, policymakers,and community stakeholders who share our commitment to health equity and improving outcomes for underserved populations.

Affiliate Benefits

  • Notification of Funding Opportunities: Updates on relevant funding opportunities and guidance on application processes.
  • Access to Community Network: Engage with HEI’s network of community-based partners and affiliated members to co-develop research and implementation projects or advocacy/policy that address local and regional health needs.
  • Project Support: Assistance with planning and logistics for off-campus research activities, including community meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
  • Collaborative Projects: Opportunities for affiliate members to collaborate with HEI on co-authored publications and presentations.

Application Process

As a UW and Seattle Children’s Research Institute affiliate, membership is open to early-career and experienced researchers based at either the University of Washington or Seattle Children’s with a demonstrated interest in health equity and maternal, child and adolescent health. Affiliation is limited to projects focused on communities in Washington, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho or Alaska. Researchers are encouraged to meet with HEI leadership before applying.

Applicants must submit a current CV and a statement of interest outlining their research goals and how they align with the HEI's mission.

Applications are reviewed as they are received. Successful applicants will receive an initial two-year affiliation, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement and ongoing collaboration.

Affiliate Member Expectations

Affiliate membership is intended to be a meaningful relationship between the researcher and the HEI. Affiliate members are expected to:

  • Share knowledge and expertise with HEI members, contributing to intellectual and professional growth.
  • Engage in mentorship activities, particularly in areas where the affiliate possesses expertise.
  • Actively participate in activities that contribute to community building within the HEI.
  • Attend HEI seminars, workshops and other events to foster community and collaboration.
  • Attend regular meetings and forums to stay connected with the HEI’s activities and research priorities.
