Today, Seattle Children’s received its first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine and will deploy its allocation in phases based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first phase includes healthcare workers, and specifically those in patient-care roles. Seattle Children's will begin administering vaccinations on December 16, 2020.

Dr. Danielle Zerr, Division Chief of Pediatric Infectious Disease, says, “While this is an exciting time for our workforce, and we are grateful to be among the first recipients of the vaccine, it’s essential we continue wearing masks, hand washing and social distancing to protect our patients, families and the community.

Seattle Children’s is also conducting COVID-19 research and has more than 50 studies underway that could result in major scientific breakthroughs that save lives and slow the spread of the virus.

Last May, Seattle Children’s diagnosed the first pediatric patient in Washington state with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19.
