Biography
Dr. Nathalia Jimenez is a professor and vice chair for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health. She works as a pediatric anesthesiologist at Seattle Children's. She is also a principal investigator at Seattle Children's Research Institute's Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development and an associate faculty member at the Latino Center for Health.
Her research focuses on health outcomes among minority populations, especially Hispanic children. Her initial work includes studies on multiple influences, on the assessment and treatment of pain, including differences in responses to opiates among Hispanic children, and language barriers for pain assessment and treatment of children of non-English-speaking families.
Currently, she is funded by an NIH grant (R01-NICHD) studying transitions of care after traumatic brain injury (TBI) for Hispanic/Latinx children. In this multicenter grant, she is evaluating the effectiveness of culturally and linguistically relevant community interventions to facilitate adherence to treatments and return to school among these children.
