"I was drawn to pediatric cardiac surgery by the opportunity to make a very real difference in the lives of children with difficult medical problems. My greatest reward is helping these children live healthy, happy lives. We are privileged to have access to cutting-edge medical technology in this country. I work every day to apply this technology in ways that improve the quality of life for my patients."

- Research Description
-
The focus of our research is developing improved mechanical extracorporeal life support systems (ECLS). Combined with optimized clinical management protocols, improved ECLS circuit designs provide increased clinical flexibility and patient safety. Current projects include system enhancements that enable decreased anticoagulation, reduced circuit size, and elimination of unnecessary components. Additionally, we are focusing on alternative methods of care provider education to increase quality assurance.
