  • Biography

    Dr. Margarett Shnorhavorian is a Professor of Urology at the University of Washington and a board certified pediatric urologist at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She is the Surgical Director of the Seattle Children’s Hospital Differences in Sex Development Program and Co-Surgical Director of the SCH level-1 CAH Comprehensive Care Center of Excellence designate by the CAH CARES Foundation.  Dr. Shnorhavorian is Principal Investigator for an R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) examining the reproductive health of childhood cancer survivors (1R01CA175216 - 01A). She has completed an NIH Career Development K-Award for Male Reproductive Health Research

    She received her bachelor’s degree from University of California Los Angeles, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She received her MD degree from the University of California, San Francisco, during which time she also received a Master’s in Public Health at the University of California Berkeley. She then completed her general and urologic surgery training at Yale University School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pediatric urology at the University of Washington.

    Dr. Shnorhavorian’s clinical focus is on urogenital reconstruction, specifically for differences in sex development, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hypospadias, and exstrophy. Her academic pursuits include bioethics, translational research, and fertility preservation. She has published in many journals, including the Journal of Pediatric Urology and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. She has led the Male Reproductive Health Task Force for the National Cancer Institute Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Dr. Shnorhavorian currently serves on the COG Steering Committee for Outcomes and Survivorship and the SPU Task Force for Differences in Sex Development.
