Biography
Mara Pavel-Dinu, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Immunology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She is also a principal investigator at the Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies, Seattle Children’s Research Institute. She earned her PhD from Stanford University, where she continued and completed her postdoctoral training in Matthew Porteus’ laboratory. Her research was focused on advancing genome editing technology to hematopoietic stem cells for correcting rare mono-genetic immune diseases. During her Instructor of Pediatrics appointment at Stanford University and as part of her newly established lab, Dr. Pavel-Dinu is interested in understanding how a disrupted metabolism may be the root cause of degenerative, age-related immune disease and a critical factor regulating hematopoietic regeneration during ex vivo genome editing. She aims to study the hematopoietic and metabolic origins of rare mono-genetic immune diseases and advance novel, safe, and effective gene therapies to the clinic.
Dr. Pavel-Dinu received numerous prestigious awards, including the Graduate Student Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation, Early Career Training Grants from the NIH/NCATS-NIAIDI and Primary Immunodeficiency Training Consortium (PIDTC), and the National Blood Foundation (NBF/AABB). She is a member of numerous national organizations and an ad hoc reviewer of various high impact research journals.
