  • Biography

     

    Dr. Akiyama is a board-certified pediatric neurologist who specializes in pediatric epilepsy. She calls the Pacific Northwest her home - she was born in Alaska, raised in the Greater Seattle area, and attended University of Washington, where she discovered her passion for neuroscience as an undergraduate student. She worked on neuroimaging and magnetoencephalography research studies at the University of Washington and in Japan before embarking on a career in medicine. She attended Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, then completed child neurology residency training at Saint Louis University School of Medicine/Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. She then returned to Seattle for both Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy fellowships at University of Washington School of Medicine/Seattle Children's Hospital.

    Dr. Akiyama is fluent in English and Japanese.

    In the outpatient setting, Dr. Akiyama sees epilepsy patients at North Clinic and Seattle main campus.
