  • Biography

    Dr. Ellington is attending physician at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She earned her MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She then completed her residency and chief residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. During fellowship, she also obtained a MS in Epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health. 

     

    Dr. Ellington is passionate about improving care for children in underserved areas through research and clinical care. Her research focuses on improving the diagnosis and management of pediatric respiratory illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa. Clinically, she travels to Alaska for outreach clinic, in addition to attending on inpatient services and outpatient clinic at Seattle Children’s.

     

    She is dedicated to medical education and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and serves as Associate Director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship.

    Research Description

    Dr. Ellington's primary research is using digital clinical decision support to improve care for children with acute respiratory symptoms in Uganda. Through this work, their team hopes to help health workers identify and manage pediatric asthma, which is under-diagnosed and often goes untreated. She also investigates mechanisms for chronic lung disease in adolescents with HIV in Kenya. She is interested in lung ultrasound and pneumonia diagnostics and in using implementation science methodologies to advance evidence-based practice in LMICs.
