Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery

Meet Your Team

Our dedicated Pediatric Surgery team includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, fellows, residents, advanced practice providers (APPs) and certified medical assistants. A host of other specialists support your child, including dietitians, child life specialists, occupational therapists and physical therapists. Read about the different experts who may care for your child and help your family.

We take a team approach to your child’s care. We stay in close communication with you – and with one another – from your child’s first visit to the clinic through surgery and follow-up.

Your child’s care team includes you and your family. Your child’s doctors will help you take an active role by:

  • Explaining the condition in a way you can understand
  • Describing all your child’s treatment options, including the risks and benefits
  • Explaining what happens before, during and after each treatment
  • Answering all your questions

Teams

Pediatric general surgeons

Seattle Children’s has the largest general and thoracic surgery team in the region. All our doctors are board certified or eligible for certification in pediatric surgery. They have extra training in treating children and expertise in general surgery and all conditions relating to the chest, belly (abdomen) and pelvis.

Advanced practice providers

Advanced practice providers (APPs) work closely with doctors and can provide care independently. APPs include advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs) and physician assistants (PAs). They diagnose and treat patients and can prescribe medicines. Throughout your child’s treatment, APPs answer questions, share advice and teach family members about your child’s condition and care.
