For more than 50 years, we have helped to fulfill her vision and become a medical home for our families and so much more.

We offer a welcoming environment to infants, children, teens and young adults that addresses all of your child’s needs and advocates for their health and well-being.

Our team of expert, caring professionals reflects the diverse community we serve. We provide medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition and fitness services to infants, children, teens and young adults, regardless of your family’s ability to pay. But we don’t just treat illnesses, we help prevent them by ensuring patients and their families have the care and resources they need to be healthy. In short, we aim to create the healthiest generation of children ever.

We offer services at our Othello clinic site near the Othello Link light rail station and will provide care at a new OBCC location in the Central District in 2025. To reach patients where they are, we also have clinics in 4 neighborhood schools.

Our Mission

Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic is an enduring community partner with a dedication to promoting quality pediatric care, family advocacy, health collaboration, mentoring and education in a culturally relevant context.

Our Legacy

Odessa Brown was born in Arkansas in 1920. During the Great Depression, Brown moved to Chicago and had difficulty getting the care she needed when she experienced health problems. She was turned away at 1 Chicago area hospital. Brown reportedly said to the staff, "I am Black and poor, but I will leave in peace so that I can keep my dignity."

Years later at the height of the civil rights movement, Brown became a community organizer in Seattle while also raising her 4 children. She fought to bring quality healthcare with dignity to children in the Central District. Brown died of leukemia in 1969 at age 49. When the new children's clinic opened the next year, a thankful community named it in her honor.
