Infusion Services
What is an infusion?
An infusion is a way to give therapies, such as medicine or blood products, through a vein. We use a tube called an IV line or a central line.
Infusion Services at Seattle Children’s
Our Infusion Services team gives infusions to children, teens and young adults who are being treated for a wide range of conditions. We monitor your child closely so they can receive infusions safely without having to spend a night in the hospital.
What’s special about Seattle Children’s Infusion Services?
Our team is highly trained to give your child lifesaving treatment. We have clinics in 3 locations, so kids can get many infusions they need without a trip to the hospital or an overnight stay.
-
The compassionate experts you need
Our team has special training to provide IVs for a wide range of conditions. Our infusions deliver medicine, blood products, nourishment, chemotherapy, enzymes and immunotherapy. We are trained to watch for and respond to complications that might happen during an infusion.
We realize infusions are stressful for many children and families. Our Child Life therapists help you and your child ease tension and feel more in control of your infusion clinic experience.
-
Three locations: Seattle, Federal Way and Bellevue
Depending on your child’s treatment needs, you may be able to choose an infusion location closer to home. We have infusion centers at our:
- Hospital main campus in Seattle
- Bellevue Clinic and Surgery Center (temporary closure of infusion services due to construction)
- South Clinic in Federal Way
Our Bellevue and Federal Way clinics do not offer blood product, chemotherapy or infusions that have a higher chance of causing reactions, such as rituximab.
-
Specialists in treating kids and teens
At Seattle Children’s, your family has a full team behind you, from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. From our appointment schedulers to our pediatric nurses, our team is specially trained to work with children and their families. Our facilities and equipment also reflect this kid-friendly, family-centered approach.
