Our Team
Our dedicated employees and volunteers are the heart of Seattle Children’s. In 2023, we had:
- 10,063 total active employees (includes 28 A3-Temporary Employees)
- 2,004 total active medical staff
- 1,994 total member nurses, Washington State Nurses Association
- 1,067 total physicians in training (academic year 2022–2023)
- 438 total medical students in training (academic year 2022-2023)
- An average of 307 volunteers per month, serving a total of 75,344 hours
Our Patients
Our workforce is dedicated to providing compassionate care to every patient we serve.
Demographics
- In 2023, we had 396,710 patient visits.
- The five reasons for inpatient admission were seizure, pulmonary edema and respiratory failure, chemotherapy, bronchitis and RSV pneumonia, non-bacterial gastroenteritis and nausea and vomiting.
- Our top five outpatient services were Rehabilitation Medicine; Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine; Orthopedics and Sports Medicine; Heart Center; and Otolaryngology.
- We performed 13,419 outpatient surgeries and 4,081 inpatient surgeries.
- We had 407 total licensed beds in operation as of December 31, 2023:
- Medical/Surgical Unit: 183
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (including Cardiac ICU): 64
- Cancer and Blood Disorders Center - Inpatient: 48
- Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit: 41
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: 32
- Rehabilitation Unit: 12
Our Funding
We build on a culture of philanthropy for patient care and research.
Seattle Children’s Hospital
- We had gross revenue of $3,856,733,000.
- We provided $354,702,000 in uncompensated care that was not offset by payments from Medicaid, grants and donations.
- Our payor mix included 48% from Medicaid and 52% from insurance and managed care.
Seattle Children’s Research Institute
- We had $253,381,884 in total extramural funding.
- The federal government provided $131,138,018 and corporations provided $16,308,383.
